The Christmas Song

"The Christmas Song" was covered on The Jackson 5 Christmas Album in late 1970.

One blistering hot Summer Afternoon. Torme earnestly longed for the bitterly-cold days of Christmas. Where he could cuddle up near a cozy fireplace to keep warm. That's when these words popped out of his head. In no time did he compose a new Christmas carol in 1944.

The lyrics were distributed to Nat King Cole who first performed this song in 1946. Of course many others followed suit as each new Christmas came and went. And who else but The Jackson Five would transform the tune into a Bubblegum carol.

The Christmas Song Lyrics

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to...You
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
Hes bringing lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mothers child is on the spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so, I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Though it has been said many times, many ways

Merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
Merry Christmas (Merry Christmas)
Merry Christmas to...You
